Manitoba Association of Plant Biologists Fellowship

The Manitoba Association of Plant Biologists has established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba to support graduate students in plant biology. Fellowships shall be offered to students who:
Are enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba, in an MSc. or Ph.D. program, with a thesis topic in any aspect of plant biology;
Have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 over the last two regular academic sessions;
Show great potential for research, as judged by the selection committee.
Applicants for the fellowships will be required to submit an application on or before the designated deadline date. The application will include a curriculum vitae, a summary of proposed research including objectives, significance and methods, and one letter of reference in support of the application (the letter is to be from an academic in the area of plant biology).
Recipients may apply for this award in subsequent years (there is no restriction on how many times one can hold this award).
Nature Manitoba Scholarship

The Nature Manitoba Scholarship offers a scholarship of $500.00 to a student who:
Has graduated from a Manitoba University; and,
Continues in or enters into a graduate program in Biological Sciences at the University of Manitoba Applicants need to submit an application form, brief biographical sketch, and transcripts (or student histories).
The H.E. Welch Memorial Scholarship
Value: $5000 Deadline: TBA
The family and friends of Harold E. Welch have established an endowment fund in his memory. Dr. Welch served as Head of the Department of Zoology at the University of Manitoba from August, 1965 to July, 1980. This scholarship is awarded to recognize academic excellence. Criteria for selection include academic performance and demonstrated potential for scholarship and research.
The value of the Scholarship is $5,000 for a 12-month period. The recipient may not hold a major scholarship for any other similar support valued at $10,000 or more. The scholarship may not be awarded to the same student two consecutive years. To be eligible for the above scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in their first year of graduate study towards a M.Sc. or Ph.D. program during the 2011- 2012 academic year.
G.A. Lubinsky Memorial Scholarship

This annual scholarship, in remembrance of Dr. George Lubinsky, is offered to either:
A MSc. student who has completed one full year of study in biological sciences, with a focus in animal biology, or a PhD student who has completed the residence requirements in biological sciences, with a focus in animal biology;
In the next ensuing academic session, will be enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, with a focus in animal biology;
Has achieved a minimum GPA of 3.5 based on the last 60 credit hours of study; and
Has demonstrated potential as a scholar and scientist in the field of animal biology.
Applicants are required to submit a curriculum vitae, transcript(s) or student histories, reprint(s) of publication(s), sum- mary of current research activity, and two letters of recommendation.
Major G. E. H. Barrett-Hamilton Memorial Scholarship

The Major G. E. H. Barrett-Hamilton memorial Scholarship has been established by Mr. M. Nesbitt to honour the work and memory of his grandfather. Major Barrett-Hamilton was a world-renowned zoologist in the area of mammalogy, with a particular interest in Arctic biology, in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. His daughter was also a keen zoologist and she graduated with a Science degree from the University of Manitoba in 1931. This award recognizes both of these individuals as it fosters scholarship and career development in zoological research.
Eligibility Requirements:
Biological Sciences graduate student registered as a first or second year student in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in the area of animal biology.
Has achieved academic excellence (minimum GPA of 3.5) based on the last two years of full-time study.
Demonstrates research potential or expertise based on letters of reference
Demonstrates scholarship based on project reports, publications, conference presentations or related accomplishments.
E. Scherer Memorial Scholarship

Mr. E. Scherer has established a Memorial Scholarship. The purpose of the fund is to support academically promising students in the field of ecology.
Eligibility requirements:
Enrolled full-time in any Masters or Doctoral program delivered by the Department of Biological Sciences;
Has achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) over (i) the last two regular academic sessions completed, if he/she is a student who is in his/her first two years of graduate studies or (ii) all graduate level sessions, if he/she is a student who is beyond the first two years of graduate studies
Is undertaking or has proposed to undertake thesis research in the field of ecology.
The scholarship is renewable for one year provided that the recipient:
Continues to be registered full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in a Masters of Doctoral program delivered by the Department of Biological Sciences;
Has maintained a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) over (i) the last two regular academic sessions completed, if he/she is a student who is in his/her first two years of graduate studies or (ii) all graduate level sessions, if he/she is a student who is beyond the first two years of graduate studies;
Is in good standing in his/her degree program.
Applicants are required to submit an application consisting of a description of their proposed or ongoing research (maximum 500 words), a current academic transcript(s), and two academic letters of reference.
Eugene Reimer Scholarship for Biological Sciences

The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship to graduate students in the field of botany.
Eligibility Requirements
Enrolled full-time in any Masters or Doctoral program delivered by the Department of Biological Sciences;
Has achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent)based on the last 60 credit hours (or equivalent);
Is undertaking or has proposed to undertake thesis research with a focus on botanical biology or ecological biology involving plants.
The scholarship is renewable for either one or three years, for a Master’s and Doctoral student respectively, provided that the recipient:
Continues to be registered full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in a Masters of Doctoral program delivered by the Department of Biological Sciences;
Has maintained a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or Equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of student (or equivalent)
Undertake thesis research with a focus on either botanical biology or ecological biology involving plants.

Roger Evans Memorial Scholarship

Be enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the Department of Biological Sciences at the time of application
Must be involved in research in the areas of Animal Behaviour or Ecology at either the Masters or Ph.D. level in the academic session in which this scholarship is tenable
Have a minimum cumulative grade point average on all completed courses (graduate and undergraduate) of 3.5
Intend to present his/her research at a national or international meeting
